AEST stands for Australian Eastern Standard Time, a time zone abbreviation.
UTC+10, the standard time of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Queensland keeps AEST all year, while the other eastern states move to AEDT in summer.
Example: The Brisbane meeting is at 9 a.m. AEST, the same clock time as Sydney in winter.
Usage notes
Australian sources once wrote simply EST, which clashed with US Eastern Standard Time; the A prefix became the norm in the 2000s. Queensland voted against daylight saving in a 1992 referendum, so in summer Brisbane is an hour behind Sydney.
