ACU stands for Army Combat Uniform, a military term abbreviation.
Field and duty uniform of the US Army, introduced in the mid-2000s with a digital gray-green pattern and later produced in the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), which is now standard.
Example: Soldiers wore the ACU in OCP for the change-of-command ceremony.
Usage notes
The original Universal Camouflage Pattern was widely criticized as ineffective in most environments, leading to its replacement. The ACU's hook-and-loop fasteners for name tapes and patches marked a break from older sewn uniforms. Older soldiers still say "BDUs" out of habit.
