Zech. stands for Zechariah, a Bible book abbreviation.

Fourteen chapters of night visions encouraging the rebuilding of the Temple and later oracles about a coming king "lowly, and riding upon an ass" (9:9), which the Gospels connect to Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.

Example: Palm Sunday readings often pair Matthew 21 with Zech. 9:9.

Usage notes

SBL writes Zech, and short forms use Zec. Many scholars divide the book into First Zechariah (chapters 1–8) and Second Zechariah (9–14). Zechariah is also the name of several other biblical figures, including the father of John the Baptist.
