1 Tim. stands for 1 Timothy, a Bible book abbreviation.
One of the three Pastoral Epistles, six chapters of instructions to Paul's coworker Timothy on church leadership, worship and false teaching, including qualifications for bishops and deacons (chapter 3). It warns that "the love of money is the root of all evil" (6:10).
Example: The verse is often misquoted as "money is the root of all evil", but 1 Tim. 6:10 speaks of the love of money.
Usage notes
Many scholars attribute the Pastoral Epistles to a later follower of Paul. Its passage restricting women from teaching (2:12) is central to debates about women's ordination. SBL writes 1 Tim, and short forms use 1 Tm.
