Usage notes
The rand, introduced in 1961, takes its name from the Witwatersrand, the gold-bearing ridge on which Johannesburg stands. It is one of the most traded emerging-market currencies. The Z in the code comes from the Dutch Zuid-Afrika. Prices are written R, as in R100.
