1. Western European Time

Units & Measurements · Time Zone Abbreviations

Winter time of Portugal (except the Azores), Madeira, the Canary Islands and the Faroe Islands, at UTC+0. In summer these regions switch to Western European Summer Time (WEST, UTC+1).

Example: In winter, flights from Lisbon are listed in WET, one hour behind Madrid.

Spain lies mostly west of Greenwich but uses Central European Time, a choice made in 1940; the Canary Islands stay an hour behind mainland Spain on WET. The UK, Ireland and Iceland use the same offset under the name GMT.

2. Write everything twice

Technology & Computing · Programming Abbreviations

A tongue-in-cheek label for code that duplicates logic instead of sharing it, the opposite of DRY. Some developers also use it approvingly, arguing that a little duplication beats a premature abstraction.

Example: This module is pretty WET; the same parsing logic appears in three controllers.

Alternative expansions include "we enjoy typing" and "write every time". The related AHA principle, "avoid hasty abstractions", popularized by Kent C. Dodds, argues for tolerating duplication until the right abstraction is clear. Mostly seen in code reviews and blog posts rather than formal documentation.
