VND stands for Vietnamese dong, a currency abbreviation.

Vietnam's currency, issued by the State Bank of Vietnam. Its low unit value means everyday prices run into tens of thousands, and the largest banknote is 500,000 dong.

Example: A bowl of pho in Hanoi costs about VND 50,000.

Usage notes

Prices are written with ₫ and a dot as thousands separator, and are often shortened with k, as in 50k. Banknotes from 10,000 dong upward are printed on polymer, and coins have largely disappeared from use. The subunits hao and xu exist only on paper.
