Ven. stands for Venerable (stage of canonization), a religious title abbreviation.
Title given in the Catholic Church to a deceased person whom the pope has declared to have lived a life of "heroic virtue", the stage after Servant of God and before beatification. No miracle is required for this step.
Example: Archbishop Fulton Sheen was declared Ven. in 2012, the step before beatification.
Usage notes
To be beatified as "Blessed", a Venerable person normally needs one approved miracle attributed to his or her intercession, unless martyred. The abbreviation is shared with the Anglican archdeacon style "the Ven." and the Buddhist honorific Venerable. Venerable persons may not yet receive public liturgical veneration.
