VDSL stands for Very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line, a telecom abbreviation.
Faster DSL technology for short copper runs, usually from a street cabinet fed by fiber, delivering up to around 100 Mbit/s with VDSL2 on very short lines. It underpins much "fiber to the cabinet" broadband.
Example: Our VDSL connection syncs at 72 Mbit/s because the cabinet is just down the road.
Usage notes
VDSL2 was standardized by the ITU in 2006. Vectoring technology cancels crosstalk between neighboring lines to boost speeds. VDSL is commonly paired with FTTC deployments, such as Openreach's widely sold "superfast" broadband in the UK. G.fast extends copper speeds further over very short distances.
