UOCAVA stands for Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, a US law abbreviation.

Law of 1986 that guarantees members of the military, their families and US citizens living abroad the right to register and vote absentee in federal elections. It created the Federal Post Card Application and a backup write-in ballot.

Example: As a UOCAVA voter, she requested her ballot by email from her base in Germany.

Usage notes

The MOVE Act of 2009 amended it to require states to send ballots to these voters at least 45 days before a federal election and to offer electronic ballot delivery. The Defense Department's Federal Voting Assistance Program helps voters use it. The acronym is often pronounced "you-oh-KAH-vuh".
