UCAT stands for University Clinical Aptitude Test, a standardized test abbreviation.

Computer-based admissions test used by most medical and dental schools in the UK and, as UCAT ANZ, by universities in Australia and New Zealand. Since 2025 it has three cognitive subtests, Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, plus a Situational Judgement Test.

Example: Her UCAT score was strong enough to clear the first cut at four medical schools.

Usage notes

Known as the UKCAT until 2019. Abstract Reasoning was removed in 2025, lowering the maximum cognitive total from 3,600 to 2,700. After the BMAT was withdrawn, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and UCL adopted the UCAT. Candidates sit it in the summer before applying through UCAS.
