ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a standardized test abbreviation also used in the military.

Aptitude test taken by everyone enlisting in the US military, used both to determine eligibility and to match recruits to jobs. It covers areas such as arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, mechanical comprehension and electronics information, and many high schools offer it free through the ASVAB Career Exploration Program.

Example: His ASVAB line scores qualified him for the Army's cyber and intelligence jobs.

Usage notes

Four subtests produce the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score that decides basic eligibility, while other combinations of subtests ("line scores" or composites) determine qualification for specific jobs. Most recruits take the computer-adaptive CAT-ASVAB at a Military Entrance Processing Station. Scores are generally valid for two years.
