AS level stands for Advanced Subsidiary level, a standardized test abbreviation.

Qualification equal in difficulty to the first year of an A level and covering roughly half its content. In England it was "decoupled" from the A level in reforms beginning in 2015, so it is now a standalone qualification that many schools no longer offer.

Example: He took an AS level in further maths alongside his three A levels.

Usage notes

In Wales and Northern Ireland the AS still contributes to the full A level grade. Cambridge International AS levels are common in international schools and count toward the Cambridge AICE Diploma. Not to be confused with the American Associate of Science degree.
