THT stands for Through-hole technology, an electronics & electrical abbreviation.
Method of mounting components whose wire leads pass through drilled holes in a circuit board and are soldered on the opposite side. Through-hole parts are larger but mechanically stronger, so THT remains common for connectors, transformers, large capacitors and hobby kits.
Example: Power connectors stay THT on the otherwise surface-mount board so they can survive repeated plugging.
Usage notes
Before the 1980s nearly all boards used THT, soldered by hand or in wave soldering machines. Breadboards and beginner kits rely on through-hole parts because they are easy to handle. Many boards today mix SMT and THT components.
