SOR stands for System of record, a data & database abbreviation.
The authoritative system for a particular kind of data, such as the HR system for employee records or the core banking system for account balances. Other systems copy from it, and disputes are settled by its values.
Example: Workday is the SOR for employee data, so update job titles there, not in the directory.
Usage notes
An organization has many systems of record, one per data domain, while a single source of truth is the agreed view built from them. Systems of engagement, such as mobile apps, consume their data. Replacing a system of record is among the riskiest IT projects.
