RPA stands for Robotic process automation, an artificial intelligence abbreviation.
Software "bots" that mimic human actions in user interfaces, such as clicking, copying data between applications and filling in forms, to automate repetitive rule-based office tasks. UiPath, Automation Anywhere and Microsoft Power Automate are leading tools.
Example: An RPA bot now copies invoice data from emails into SAP, saving the team ten hours a week.
Usage notes
Despite the word "robotic", no physical robots are involved. Bots break when screens change, so they work best on stable systems; vendors increasingly add AI to read documents and handle exceptions, marketed as intelligent automation. UiPath, the best-known vendor, was founded in Romania in 2005.
