PARCC stands for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, a standardized test abbreviation.
Multistate consortium formed in 2010 with federal Race to the Top funding to create Common Core-aligned tests in English language arts and mathematics for grades 3 to 11. More than 20 states and Washington, DC initially joined, but most left by the late 2010s amid political opposition and complaints about testing time.
Example: New Jersey replaced PARCC with its own state assessments beginning in 2019.
Usage notes
Test content developed for PARCC continues to be licensed to states under different names. Pronounced "park". The rival consortium was Smarter Balanced (SBAC), and the two together tested most American students in 2015.
