PISA stands for Programme for International Student Assessment, a standardized test abbreviation.
OECD survey that tests 15-year-olds in reading, mathematics and science every three years, with 81 countries and economies taking part in the 2022 round. Its rankings strongly influence education policy debates; Singapore topped all three subjects in 2022.
Example: PISA 2022 recorded the steepest drop in average math scores in the history of the survey.
Usage notes
The 2021 round was postponed to 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each cycle emphasizes one main domain and adds an innovative area such as creative thinking. Because schools and students are sampled, results describe national systems rather than individual pupils. The British spelling "Programme" is official.
