SBAC stands for Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, a standardized test abbreviation.
Multistate consortium, launched in 2010 with federal Race to the Top funding, that develops computer-adaptive tests in English language arts and math aligned to the Common Core standards. California, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii and other states use its tests for grades 3 to 8 and high school.
Example: The district's SBAC results improved for the second straight year in eighth-grade math.
Usage notes
Teachers and parents usually just say "Smarter Balanced". The tests include performance tasks requiring extended written answers and multistep problem solving. Membership shrank after the peak of Common Core adoption as several states switched to their own exams.
