OSFED stands for Other specified feeding or eating disorder, a mental health & psychiatry abbreviation.
DSM-5 diagnosis for clinically significant eating disorders that do not meet full criteria for anorexia, bulimia or binge eating disorder. Examples include atypical anorexia nervosa, low-frequency bulimia or BED, purging disorder and night eating syndrome.
Example: OSFED (atypical AN): 18 percent weight loss, BMI 22, bradycardia; medical monitoring weekly.
Usage notes
It replaced the DSM-IV category EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified). Despite the "other" label, OSFED can be as dangerous as the named disorders, and atypical anorexia can cause the same heart complications. Pronounced "OS-fed".
