ONDCP stands for Office of National Drug Control Policy, a US federal agency abbreviation.
White House office that sets the national drug control strategy and coordinates the anti-drug budgets of more than a dozen federal agencies. It runs the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program and is led by a Director often called the "drug czar".
Example: ONDCP designated fentanyl mixed with xylazine as an emerging threat to the nation.
Usage notes
The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 set up the office. The Director's post has alternated between cabinet and sub-cabinet rank depending on the administration. The April 2023 designation of xylazine-adulterated fentanyl was the first use of its emerging-threat authority. Its Drug-Free Communities grants fund local prevention coalitions.
