OSHA stands for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a US federal agency abbreviation.
Labor Department agency that sets and enforces workplace safety and health standards, inspects worksites and issues citations and fines. Covered employers must keep injury and illness logs and report serious incidents, and the agency is led by an Assistant Secretary of Labor.
Example: An OSHA inspector cited the contractor for missing fall protection on the third-floor deck.
Usage notes
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 created OSHA, which opened in 1971. Roughly two dozen states run their own OSHA-approved "state plans". OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 cards show completion of construction or general-industry training but are not certifications. Pronounced "OH-sha".
