OHG stands for Offene Handelsgesellschaft (general commercial partnership), a company type abbreviation.
German general partnership for commercial businesses, in which all partners have unlimited, joint liability for the firm's debts. It is entered in the commercial register and is used by some family-run trading businesses.
Example: The two brothers' wholesale business has traded as an OHG since 1978.
Usage notes
Austria's equivalent is the OG (offene Gesellschaft). Because partners face unlimited liability, many businesses prefer the GmbH or GmbH & Co. KG. Germany's partnership law reform (MoPeG), in force since January 2024, modernized the rules for partnerships including the OHG.
