ODF stands for OpenDocument Format, a file format abbreviation.
Open, XML-based standard for office documents, covering word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and drawings. It is the native format of LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice and is supported by Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
Example: The ministry publishes its forms in ODF so citizens don't need to buy software to fill them in.
Usage notes
OASIS approved OpenDocument in 2005, and it became the international standard ISO/IEC 26300 in 2006. Several governments adopted it for interoperability; the UK government selected ODF for sharing editable documents in 2014. Files are ZIP packages of XML, much like Office Open XML. Main extensions are .odt, .ods, .odp and .odg.
