Umbrella term for anticoagulants taken by mouth, including vitamin K antagonists such as warfarin and the direct oral anticoagulants. In atrial fibrillation, the CHA2DS2-VASc score guides who should receive an OAC.
Example: AF with CHA2DS2-VASc 3 and HAS-BLED 1: OAC recommended.
Bleeding risk scores such as HAS-BLED identify modifiable risks but are not meant to withhold anticoagulation on their own. "OAC" is preferred in guidelines when a recommendation applies to both warfarin and DOACs. Left atrial appendage occlusion devices are an alternative for some people who cannot take OACs long term.

The best advertised rates usually go to buyers with top credit scores, so many shoppers qualify only for different terms. In the US, Regulation Z under the Truth in Lending Act governs how credit terms must be disclosed in advertising. Similar fine print reads WAC, "with approved credit."
