1. Oral hypoglycemic agent

General term for diabetes medications taken by mouth, such as metformin, sulfonylureas, DPP-4 inhibitors and SGLT2 inhibitors. It is common shorthand in admission notes when patients are switched to insulin in hospital.
Example: Hold OHAs while inpatient; start basal-bolus insulin per protocol.
The name is imprecise because metformin, the usual first-line drug, lowers glucose without typically causing hypoglycemia; "oral antidiabetic drug" (OAD) or "oral glucose-lowering agent" is more accurate. Hospitals often stop these drugs on admission because of contrast studies, kidney changes and unpredictable eating.
2. Overseas Housing Allowance

Allowance paid to service members living in private housing at overseas duty stations, covering rent up to a local ceiling plus a monthly utility and maintenance amount and a one-time move-in allowance.
Example: Our OHA in Stuttgart covers the rent, but the deposit came out of pocket.
OHA is paid in US dollars but tracks local rents and currency fluctuations, so amounts change as exchange rates shift. It is the overseas counterpart of BAH, which applies only within the United States.
