MRG stands for Murmurs, rubs or gallops, a cardiology abbreviation.
Cardiac exam shorthand covering the three main abnormal heart sounds: murmurs from turbulent flow, pericardial friction rubs and gallop rhythms (S3 or S4). "No MRG" documents that none were heard.
Example: Heart: RRR, no MRG; lungs clear bilaterally.
Usage notes
Also written m/r/g. Murmurs are graded 1 to 6 for loudness on the Levine scale, and grade 4 or above comes with a palpable thrill. A scratchy, often three-part pericardial rub suggests pericarditis. Templates that auto-fill "no MRG" draw criticism when the exam was not actually performed.
