MERN stands for MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js, an Internet & web abbreviation.
A JavaScript stack combining the MongoDB database, the Express.js server framework, the React front-end library and the Node.js runtime. It is one of the most common stacks taught in web development courses and named in junior developer job ads.
Example: Junior full-stack role: 1+ year of MERN experience, Git, and REST API design.
Usage notes
A variation on the earlier MEAN stack, replacing Angular with React as React overtook it in popularity in the late 2010s. Every layer uses JavaScript or JSON-like data, letting one developer work across the whole application. Professional MERN projects often use TypeScript instead of plain JavaScript.
