1. Master of Education

Graduate degree for teachers, school leaders, counselors and instructional designers, usually 30 to 36 credits, in areas such as curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, special education or reading. Many US school districts pay teachers more on the salary schedule once they earn one.
Example: Teachers who complete an MEd move to the master's lane of the district salary schedule.
Written M.Ed. in AP style. Harvard and Columbia's Teachers College write EdM instead. An MEd does not by itself grant an initial teaching license; career changers usually choose an MAT. Some MEd programs in school leadership lead to principal certification after a state exam.
2. Medium (med)

The middle size designation for produce, eggs and portions in recipes and menus, as in 2 med potatoes or a med pizza. Medium eggs are a USDA class weighing at least 21 oz per dozen, compared with 24 oz for large.
Example: Peel and cube 3 med russet potatoes, about 1 1/2 pounds in total.
On restaurant order tickets, med also records steak doneness: a medium steak has a warm pink center. Cup and pizza sizes labeled med vary greatly by chain, so recipes based on takeout portions rarely translate exactly. Also written md or MED.
3. Mediterranean (Med)

Informal British and naval short form for the Mediterranean Sea and its coasts, as in a cruise round the Med or the Med fleet.
Example: We are spending two weeks sailing round the Med this summer.
Med also abbreviates medicine and medium. The Mediterranean takes its name from Latin for in the middle of the land.
