LPV stands for Localizer performance with vertical guidance, an aviation abbreviation.
Highest-precision line of minimums on a GPS approach in the United States, using WAAS to provide ILS-like lateral and vertical guidance down to as low as 200 feet above the runway. The US now has more LPV approaches than ILS approaches.
Example: The airport has no ILS, but the RNAV approach offers LPV minimums of 250 feet and three-quarters of a mile.
Usage notes
Shown on RNAV (GPS) charts alongside other lines of minimums: LNAV/VNAV, LNAV and LP. Under ICAO terminology LPV is classed as an approach with vertical guidance rather than a precision approach, though it flies like an ILS. Only WAAS-capable navigators can use LPV minimums; older GPS units are limited to LNAV.
