LCPD stands for Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, a musculoskeletal & rheumatology abbreviation.

Childhood hip disorder in which the blood supply to the femoral head is temporarily interrupted, causing the bone to die, collapse and gradually remodel. It typically affects children aged 4 to 8, more often boys, and presents with a painless or mildly painful limp.

Example: 6-year-old with limp, X-ray shows flattened right femoral head: LCPD, lateral pillar group B.

Usage notes

Named after Arthur Legg, Jacques Calvé and Georg Perthes, who described it independently in 1910. Children diagnosed younger than about six generally have better outcomes. Treatment ranges from observation and activity modification to osteotomy to keep the femoral head contained in the socket.
