IBIS stands for In-body image stabilization, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Camera stabilization system that moves the image sensor itself, usually on five axes, to counteract hand shake. It works with any attached lens, including vintage manual lenses without their own stabilization.
Example: With IBIS, I can handhold a one-second exposure on the mirrorless camera.
Usage notes
Konica Minolta's Maxxum 7D (2004) was among the first interchangeable-lens cameras with sensor-shift stabilization, and Olympus, now OM System, became known for very strong IBIS. Many cameras combine IBIS with optical stabilization in the lens for extra stops of correction, sold under names such as Dual IS. Some phones now use sensor-shift stabilization too.
