IFA stands for Internationale Funkausstellung (International Radio Exhibition), a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Large consumer electronics and home appliance trade show held in Berlin each September, where European and Asian manufacturers launch TVs, phones, smart-home devices and kitchen appliances.
Example: Several phone makers timed their new foldables for launch at IFA in Berlin.
Usage notes
The first exhibition took place in Berlin in 1924. Albert Einstein gave the opening speech in 1930, and West German color television was launched at IFA 1967 when Vice Chancellor Willy Brandt pressed a button to start PAL broadcasts. Unlike CES, IFA has public days open to consumers. The show now uses "IFA" as its name.
