Rapid overgrowth of algae or cyanobacteria in water that produces toxins or depletes oxygen, harming people, pets, fish and wildlife. Blooms are fueled by nutrient pollution and warm water; red tides along the Florida coast and toxic blue-green algae in lakes are common examples.
Example: The beach was closed after tests detected microcystin from a HAB along the shoreline.
In August 2014 a cyanobacteria bloom in Lake Erie contaminated the water supply of Toledo, Ohio, leaving about 400,000 people without drinkable tap water for three days. Dogs are especially vulnerable because they swim in and drink scummy water. Agencies advise "when in doubt, stay out" during visible blooms.
2. Habakkuk (Hab.)

Three-chapter book in which the prophet questions why God allows injustice and uses the Babylonians as instruments of judgment. Its line "the just shall live by his faith" (2:4) became central to Paul's letters and the Protestant Reformation.
Example: Martin Luther's reading of Hab. 2:4 through Romans 1:17 shaped the doctrine of justification by faith.
SBL writes Hab, and short forms use Hb. A commentary on Habakkuk found among the Dead Sea Scrolls (1QpHab) is one of the best-preserved scrolls. Chapter 3 is a psalm with musical notations.
