Ezr stands for Ezra, a Bible book abbreviation.
Book of ten chapters describing the return of Jewish exiles from Babylon, the rebuilding of the Temple and the reforms of Ezra, a priest and scribe who read the Law to the people. In the Hebrew Bible Ezra and Nehemiah form a single book.
Example: The Persian decrees quoted in Ezr 6 are written in Aramaic.
Usage notes
SBL and Chicago's traditional list leave Ezra unabbreviated, while Catholic Bibles and Chicago's short forms use Ezr. Parts of the book (4:8–6:18 and 7:12–26) are in Aramaic. Do not confuse it with 1 and 2 Esdras, apocryphal books that also bear Ezra's name.
