GD&T stands for Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, an engineering abbreviation.
Symbolic language on engineering drawings that defines the allowable variation in a part's form, orientation, location and runout relative to datum features. GD&T communicates design intent precisely, so parts made by different suppliers fit and function together.
Example: The hole position is controlled by GD&T to within 0.1 mm relative to datums A, B and C.
Usage notes
In the United States the governing standard is ASME Y14.5, while most other countries use ISO's Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) system. Stanley Parker of the Royal Torpedo Factory in Scotland introduced the concept of true position in the 1940s. Each requirement appears in a rectangular feature control frame.
