F. Supp. 2d stands for Federal Supplement, Second Series, a legal citation abbreviation.
Selected US district court opinions from 1998 to 2014 fill this second series of West's Federal Supplement, which ran to 999 volumes. Important trial-level rulings of that period, such as the intelligent design decision in Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, appear in it.
Example: Kitzmiller v. Dover Area Sch. Dist., 400 F. Supp. 2d 707 (M.D. Pa. 2005), rejected teaching intelligent design.
Usage notes
The spacing is "F. Supp. 2d", with a space before "2d" because it follows a multi-letter abbreviation, unlike "F.2d". The court parenthetical must name the district, as in "(S.D.N.Y. 2010)". Like all district court opinions, decisions reported here persuade other courts but do not bind them.
