1. Diagnosis

Medical · Medical Documentation Abbreviations

Shorthand for diagnosis, the identification of the disease or condition causing the patient's problem. It labels confirmed or working diagnoses in notes, orders and referrals.

Example: Dx: community-acquired pneumonia, right lower lobe.

Formally coded using ICD-10-CM in the United States and ICD-10 or ICD-11 elsewhere. A "working" or "provisional" Dx may change as tests return. Common combinations include "primary Dx", "discharge Dx" and "Dx code". Compare DDx for the list of possibilities still being considered.

2. Developer experience (DX)

Technology & Computing · Programming Abbreviations

How easy and pleasant it is for developers to use a tool, API, platform or codebase, including documentation, error messages, setup time and feedback loops. Companies selling to developers compete heavily on DX.

Example: Great DX: one command to install, clear errors, and docs with copy-paste examples.

Modeled on UX (user experience) and widely used since the 2010s. Platform engineering teams measure internal DX through build times, onboarding speed and surveys, and developer relations teams often own the external side. In medicine DX abbreviates diagnosis, and in business digital transformation.
