E2E stands for End-to-end (testing), a programming abbreviation.
Testing that exercises a whole application the way a user would, from the interface through back-end services and databases, to confirm complete workflows such as sign-up or checkout. Popular tools include Playwright, Cypress and Selenium.
Example: The E2E suite logs in, adds an item to the cart and completes checkout in a real browser.
Usage notes
In the "testing pyramid", these tests sit at the top: the most realistic but slowest and most brittle, so teams keep fewer of them than unit tests. Flaky tests that fail at random are a common frustration. In messaging, E2E also appears in E2EE, end-to-end encryption.
