CW2 stands for Chief Warrant Officer 2, a US Army rank abbreviation.
Army warrant officer rank at pay grade W-2, usually reached about two years after appointment as WO1, at which point the officer receives a commission. The insignia is a silver bar with two black squares, and most CW2s are pilots or technicians in fields such as intelligence, maintenance and signal.
Example: CW2 Fisher is pilot in command for the medevac crew on tonight's rotation.
Usage notes
The Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard write the same pay grade as CWO2. Commissioned warrant officers outrank all enlisted members but are junior to every commissioned officer, including a second lieutenant. Most Army aviation aircraft are flown by warrant officers rather than commissioned officers.
