1. Canada Pension Plan
Government & Politics · World Government Abbreviations
Contributory, earnings-related public pension that pays retirement, disability and survivor benefits to workers across Canada except Quebec, which runs the parallel Quebec Pension Plan. Workers and employers each contribute a percentage of earnings.
Example: He started his CPP at 65 but plans to defer his OAS to 70.
Contributions began in 1966, and the program was expanded starting in 2019 to replace a larger share of earnings. Its reserve fund is managed by CPP Investments, one of the world's largest pension investors. Benefits can begin between 60 and 70, with adjustments for early or late starts.
2. Cerebral perfusion pressure
Medical · Neurology Abbreviations
Pressure driving blood flow to the brain, calculated as mean arterial pressure minus intracranial pressure. In severe traumatic brain injury, guidelines target a CPP of about 60 to 70 mmHg.
Example: MAP 80 with ICP 25 gives a CPP of 55; norepinephrine titrated to raise CPP above 60.
When CPP falls too low, the brain becomes ischemic; when pushed too high, complications such as ARDS can follow, as early trials of aggressive targets showed. Healthy brains maintain steady blood flow across a range of pressures through autoregulation, which is often impaired after injury. In respiratory care CPP can also mean continuous positive pressure.
3. Cost per point
Business & Finance · Marketing & Advertising Abbreviations
Price of buying one rating point, meaning 1% of the target audience, in television or radio advertising, used to compare the efficiency of stations, dayparts and markets.
Example: The CPP in New York is many times higher than in smaller markets because the audience is bigger.
4. Certified Payroll Professional
Education & Academia · Professional Certification Abbreviations
Credential for experienced payroll practitioners from PayrollOrg, formerly the American Payroll Association, earned by passing an exam on payroll calculations, tax compliance, benefits and payroll administration after meeting experience requirements.
Example: Our payroll manager, a CPP, handles multistate withholding for 3,000 employees.
An entry-level credential, the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), requires no experience. Holders recertify every five years. In security management, CPP means Certified Protection Professional, an unrelated credential.
5. Certified Protection Professional
Education & Academia · Professional Certification Abbreviations
Board certification in security management from ASIS International, first awarded in 1977, for security managers responsible for assets, people and facilities. Candidates need years of security experience, including responsible charge, and must pass an exam.
Example: The hospital's head of security holds the CPP and oversees 60 officers.
ASIS also offers the Physical Security Professional (PSP) and the Professional Certified Investigator (PCI). Holders recertify every three years. The same initials also mean Certified Payroll Professional.
