1. Calcium channel blocker
Medical · Drug Class Abbreviations
Drugs that block calcium entry into heart and blood vessel muscle cells. Dihydropyridines such as amlodipine and nifedipine mainly relax arteries to lower blood pressure, while verapamil and diltiazem also slow the heart rate.
Example: CCB-related ankle swelling; reduce amlodipine to 5 mg and add an ACEI.
Non-dihydropyridine CCBs (verapamil, diltiazem) are avoided in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction because they weaken heart contraction. Grapefruit raises levels of some CCBs, notably felodipine and nifedipine. Verapamil commonly causes constipation, and the combination of a non-dihydropyridine CCB with a beta-blocker can cause dangerous slowing of the heart.
2. Change control board
Business & Finance · Project Management Abbreviations
Group of stakeholders formally responsible for reviewing, approving, deferring or rejecting proposed changes to a project's scope, schedule, cost or baseline configuration.
Example: The CCB approved the extra report but pushed the mobile app to phase two.
Membership typically includes the sponsor, project manager and technical leads. In IT service management, a similar body is called a change advisory board (CAB).
3. Copyright Claims Board
Law & Legal · Intellectual Property Abbreviations
Voluntary small-claims tribunal within the US Copyright Office that resolves copyright infringement claims worth up to $30,000 in total, conducted largely online and without any need to hire a lawyer. It began hearing cases in June 2022.
Example: The illustrator filed a CCB claim against the online shop selling prints of her drawings.
Created by the CASE Act of 2020. Damages are capped at $15,000 per work and $30,000 per proceeding. Respondents may opt out within 60 days of service, leaving the claimant to sue in federal court. CCB decisions have no precedential value in later cases.
