BSN stands for Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a degree abbreviation also used in medicine.
Four-year nursing degree that combines science prerequisites with clinical rotations and courses in leadership, research and community health; graduates take the NCLEX-RN to become registered nurses. Accelerated BSN programs for people who already hold another bachelor's degree take about 12 to 18 months.
Example: Many Magnet hospitals now hire only nurses who hold a BSN or are enrolled in one.
Usage notes
Written B.S.N. in AP style. The American Nurses Credentialing Center recommends listing the highest earned degree before the license, as in "Maria Lopez, BSN, RN". RN-to-BSN bridge programs let associate-degree nurses earn the degree while working, often fully online.
