1. Behavior intervention plan
Education & Academia · K-12 Education Abbreviations
Written plan, often part of an IEP or 504 plan, that describes positive strategies, supports and consequences to reduce a student's problem behavior and teach replacement skills. It is built from the results of a functional behavioral assessment.
Example: The BIP gives him scheduled movement breaks and a signal to request help.
A good BIP addresses the function of the behavior rather than simply punishing it. Teams review data to see whether the plan is working and revise it as needed. Some states use the term behavior support plan instead.
2. Bitcoin Improvement Proposal
Technology & Computing · Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Abbreviations
A design document proposing changes to bitcoin's protocol, software or conventions, numbered and reviewed by the community. BIPs define seed phrases, address formats and upgrades such as SegWit and Taproot.
Example: Most wallets follow BIP 39, so a recovery phrase works in any compatible app.
Introduced by Amir Taaki in 2011 with BIP 1. Notable proposals include BIP 32 (hierarchical deterministic wallets), BIP 39 (mnemonic seed phrases), BIPs 141 to 143 (SegWit, 2017) and BIPs 340 to 342 (Taproot, 2021). Adoption depends on rough consensus among developers, miners and node operators.
