CCSS stands for Common Core State Standards, a K-12 education abbreviation.
Academic standards in English language arts and mathematics for kindergarten through grade 12, released in 2010 by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers. More than 40 states and Washington, DC adopted them, though several later revised or renamed their versions.
Example: This lesson addresses CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.3 on adding fractions with like denominators.
Usage notes
Usually called Common Core. The federal government encouraged adoption through Race to the Top grants, which fueled political opposition. Florida replaced the standards with its own B.E.S.T. Standards, and other states made similar changes while keeping much of the content.
