2. Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
Technology & Computing · Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Abbreviations
A cryptocurrency created by a hard fork of bitcoin on August 1, 2017, raising the block size limit so more transactions fit in each block, with the aim of cheap everyday payments.
Example: The merchant accepts BCH because its fees are usually a fraction of a cent.
The fork followed years of "block size wars" over how bitcoin should scale; bitcoin itself adopted SegWit and the Lightning Network instead. Bitcoin Cash split again in 2018, producing Bitcoin SV. Holders of bitcoin at the moment of the fork received an equal amount of BCH.
