ARW stands for Sony Alpha Raw, a file format abbreviation.
Raw image format used by Sony's Alpha series cameras, including the A7 and A1 mirrorless lines, storing unprocessed sensor data for later editing.
Example: The ARW files from the A7 IV are about 60 MB each in uncompressed mode.
Usage notes
Sony cameras offer compressed, uncompressed and, on newer bodies, lossless compressed raw options; early compressed ARW files used a lossy scheme that could produce artifacts around high-contrast edges. Sony's free Imaging Edge software and all major raw editors support ARW. Sony also uses the related SR2 and SRF formats on older models.
