ACIP stands for Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, an infectious disease abbreviation.

Federal advisory committee that recommends how vaccines licensed by the FDA should be used in the US civilian population, including which ages and groups should receive them. Recommendations adopted by the CDC director become the official US immunization schedules.

Example: ACIP voted to recommend RSV vaccination for adults aged 75 and older.

Usage notes

Established in 1964. Under the Affordable Care Act, most private insurers must cover ACIP-recommended vaccines without cost sharing, giving its votes major financial impact. In June 2025 the secretary of Health and Human Services removed all sitting members and appointed replacements, a move criticized by major medical organizations. Pronounced "AY-sip".
