70/30 stands for 70% intermediate-acting and 30% short-acting premixed insulin, a drug abbreviation.
Premixed insulin containing 70 percent NPH and 30 percent regular insulin (Humulin 70/30, Novolin 70/30), or the analog version with 70 percent aspart protamine and 30 percent aspart (NovoLog Mix 70/30). It is usually injected twice daily before breakfast and dinner.
Example: Novolin 70/30 24 units before breakfast and 16 units before supper.
Usage notes
Premixed insulins reduce the number of daily injections but allow less flexible dosing, so meals must be fairly regular. Human 70/30 is sold without a prescription at low cost in many US pharmacies. The analog and human 70/30 products are not interchangeable unit-for-unit in timing.
