ZKP stands for Zero-knowledge proof, a cryptocurrency & blockchain abbreviation.
A cryptographic method that lets one party prove a statement is true, such as having enough funds or knowing a password, without revealing anything else. Blockchains use ZKPs for privacy and for ZK-rollups that compress many transactions into one proof.
Example: The ZKP lets users prove they are over 18 without showing their birth date.
Usage notes
Introduced by Shafi Goldwasser, Silvio Micali and Charles Rackoff in a 1985 paper; Goldwasser and Micali later won the Turing Award. Zcash (2016) was the first major cryptocurrency to use zk-SNARKs. ZK-rollups such as zkSync and Starknet scale Ethereum by verifying batches of transactions with a single proof. Often shortened to "ZK".
